A Greener Choice
A Greener Choice
We all want to be thinking of the future. We love our planet and want to keep it safe and clean for the next generation. We recycle, ride a bike on those short trips, and are constantly striving to create new and more fuel efficient means of transportation.
Being in the coating industry, I have to be aware of environmental issues. I have to take extra precautions to keep good air quality, and in this day and age it is much easier than it has ever been to keep our air clean. Luckily there is a cleaner, more efficient, and even more visually appealing alternative that starts off on the right foot from the start.
With the Clean Air Act of 1970 powder coating has risen to the top as a much cleaner choice, and is seen as the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) to lower air pollution.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) released into the air is one of the coatings industry's greatest concerns. So lets look at a few reasons why Powder Coating is a leader in this field.
The Industry has made great strides
Powder Coating is a dry finishing, environmentally friendly process which uses no solvents, which means there is little to no air pollution. The industry has made great strides in creating coating applications with amazing transfer efficiency, lowering the amount of over spray dramatically. The spent powder may then be reclaimed and reused to reduce the amount of waste powder even further.
The powder is then baked in a curing oven, a process that emits no VOCs, which fuses it to the product, giving it an amazing looking, scratch resistant, very durable finish.
When taken care of responsibly, the waste product itself can be disposed of in a solid form, lowering the possible VOCs in the air giving it a greater edge than many of the other coating options, as stated here on the Product Finishing website.
All of these parts together create a safer, greener option for your product. Its an industry we take great pride in and hope that you will take the time to consider the research given here and what is provided by the Powder Coating Institute to help you in the right direction to make an informed decision on your next project.
